Terms and defintions

Coop - The entire area a chicken lives in, including the indoor and outdoor areas.

Run - A chicken's out door area. It should be fenced to keep chickens in and predators out.

Henhouse - The chicken's indoor space, it should be protected from the weather and contain nesting boxes and roosts

Nesting box - The private area where chickens lay their eggs. They are usually slightly larger than one square foot and have access from the outside so the eggs can easily be removed.

Roosts - Roosts are poles about 2 inches in diameter which the chickens sleep and rest on. They should be elevated 2 feet off the floor and 18 inches from any parallel walls. Allow around 8 inches per chicken.

Some chicken breeds such as the Ameraucana and Araucana can lay colored eggs, usually in shades of blue or green
